Opera Company of Philadelphia: LA BOHÈME Playing Through October 7th

The Opera Company of Philadelphia has already opened production of Giacomo Puccini’s blockbuster La bohème at the Academy of Music where it is playing through October 7th.

Here’s a description of the production from the Opera Company of Philadelphia website:

“The timeless story of a shy seamstress and a passionate poet who chance upon each other on a snowy Parisian evening, La bohème is known for its lush melodies and characters that touch the very heart of our humanity. With sweeping orchestral and choral music, this original production from director Davide Livermore shines a spotlight on the true bohemian influences at the turn of the century by showcasing the intensely moving impressionist art created at the turn of the 20th Century.”

More About La bohème

“Soprano Norah Amsellem, who received audience and critical acclaim as Desdemona in Otello in 2010 and who frequently performs in Paris, London and Vienna, returns to sing the role of Mimí. Academy of Vocal Arts alumni-turned-international tenor Bryan Hymel makes his company debut as Rodolfo. Returning to the OCP stage as the tumultuous couple Marcello and Musetta are two Philadelphia favorites, baritone Troy Cook and soprano Leah Partridge. Music Director Corrado Rovaris conducts Puccini’s captivating score. Excerpts are from the Opera Company of Philadelphia’s 2006 performances of La bohème: Selections include the lovers’ duet “O soave fanciulla”, the opening of Act II, Musetta’s Waltz “Quando m’en vo’”, Act III Lovers’ Quartet, and the Act IV bohemians’ comic dueling match. Performers include Roger Honeywell (Rodolfo), Ermonela Jaho (Mimì), Sari Gruber (Musetta) and Troy Cook (Marcello), the Opera Company of Philadelphia orchestra and chorus, with the Commonwealth Youth Choirs, conducted by Maestro Corrado Rovaris.”
