The Philadelphia restaurant scene has certainly been getting a lot of national attention lately – which is good news for the Philadelphia Real Estate community! First Travel + Leisure’s article last week and now Bon Appetit magazine has done a piece on Philadelphia’s dining scene titled “Philadelphia’s New Originals”. Here’s what the tagline said “From fried chicken and doughnuts to inspired new bistros, Philadelphia’s chefs are transforming the dining scene. Here’s why eating out in the City of Brotherly Love has never been better”
Here’s an excerpt from the online article:
“Get to Michael Solomonov’s Federal Donuts, a minuscule counter serving doughnuts and fried chicken, early. By 8:00 a.m. on most weekdays, the six stools and both concrete benches are taken by locals sipping custom-blend PT’s coffee and digging into pillowy cake doughnuts in flavors like halvah-pistachio. The fried-chicken fans line up before noon, and for good reason; the buttermilk ranch coating is so addictive it should come with a warning.” (Pictured above)
The article went on to say:
“Not so long ago, Philadelphia’s food scene was dominated by fossilized French restaurants, Nixon-era steakhouses, and other representatives of the leather-bound-menu set. But visit today and you’ll find unpretentious, chef-driven places capable of charming even the most jaded big-city diner. In their kitchens, acclaimed homegrown chefs like Jose Garces and Marc Vetri have incubated and invested in young talent, some of whom have moved on to launch their own projects. The resulting scene is a mix of pioneers honing their visions and ambitious up-and-comers opening intimate spots in new neighborhoods. The continued success of all of these ventures is driven by local diners who are ravenous for newness but discerning about quality. Turns out that in Philly, there’s way more to obsess over than cheesesteak.”
The restaurants specifically mentioned in the article are as follows: Federal Donuts, Alla Spina, Sbraga, Zeppoli, Amis, Bibou, Chestnut Hill Coffee Co, La Colombe Coffee Roasters, and Rival Bros.
Congrats to everyone mentioned!
