Someone With a “Braveheart” Needed to Buy Mel’s Jungle Getaway

As you can see, beauty certainly isn't in short supply at Gibson's digs.

Quick: who’s got $30 mil and a desire to really get away from it all?

Mel Gibson’s having a bit of trouble unloading his Costa Rican enclave. Consisting of three Spanish-style villas and surrounded by 500 acres of private jungle, it’s definitely not the kind of property one encounters every day. Unfortunately, it’s apparently also not the kind of property that one purchases every day: it’s been sitting dormant on the market for a year now.

The homes are situated on Playa Barrigona, a tiny paradise known for the sea turtles that migrate there to lay eggs on the beach, on Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula. They boast vaulted ceilings, native wood trim, soaring arches, and a tasteful paint job. There are multiple verandas, and your own personal white-sand beach. There’s the main home, Casa Guanacaste, which consists of seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, and then two two-bedroom villas with less square footage: Casa Barrigona, which is alongside the pool, and Casa Dorada, a loft. The home has been featured in Architectural Digest magazine and is far and away the most expensive home in the country.

Still on the fence? Better act now, before some other kajillionaire snaps this home up. Think about it: peace and quiet doesn’t get any more peaceful or quiet than being enveloped by acres of jungle all around you – nothing but you, your big-ass homes, and plenty of potentially-deadly wildlife! Oh, wait… maybe there is a reason that folks are hesitant to scoop this one up after all.
