From a Lair To The Hollywood Hills: Moby’s New Home

Electronic musician Moby just sold his home, a replica castle called Wolf’s Lair that overlooked the Hollywood Reservoir. Now the artist has found himself a new place to hang his hat: a 1920s-vintage Tudor in Los Feliz, in the star-packed The Oaks nabe. The house was listed over the summer for $3.295 million, but Moby picked it up for a comparative song at $2.99 million.

The brick-faced Tudor is not quite a castle, but it’s pretty darn nice.

The home has an adorable brick entryway, high ceilings in the living space, a butler’s pantry, a pool, and an elegant poolhouse. The musician said that he was longing for a place to live where he was surrounded by other artists, who he calls his “spiritual kin,” and wanted a locale that was “a little weird.” His former city of choice, the Big Apple, was quickly becoming too expensive for the type of folks with whom he wished to live: so Los Angeles it was.

Moby’s old home, Wolf’s Lair, was an architectural stunner that was profiled in the LA Times. Or, at least, it was a stunner when he was finished with it – he spent two million bucks just on fixing it up. The home is a replica of a Norman castle, complete with turrets, gables, secret passages, and eight bedrooms. Speaking of secrets passageways, one actually leads to a hidden tiki bar, a holdover from Prohibition days. The artist acquired the Lair for $3.925 million and ultimately sold it for $12.4 million… a tidy profit, even considering the reno money.

It’s been a busy real estate year for Moby, who also sold a $2 million penthouse in New York City this past summer.
