Looking to buy your first home? Philadelphia could be just the place for you!

Just in case you didn’t realize it already, Philadelphia is a great place to live. I’m not the only one saying so, either. A story just broke on CBS 3 that Philadelphia had nabbed second place in a poll of “top cities for first-time homebuyers” as decided on Realtor.com, a website for real estate professionals.

Looking to buy your first home? Philadelphia could be just the place for you!

According to the website, Philly’s more-affordable housing is snatching some 27,000 New Yorkers away from the Big Apple each year. It’s not just the houses that are cheap, either. Everything from cocktails to dining to entertainment is also cheaper in the City of Brotherly Love than in other metro areas, making Philly a great choice for young professionals just starting out with their careers – and their bank accounts.

It’s not solely about pricing, however. Realtor Rob Oryl  was quoted as saying that, “for first time home-buyers, the most important thing is the personality of the neighborhood.” One thing that Philadelphia definitely has is personality in spades! The fact that the city comes with plenty of history is attractive to young adults, as are the newer aspects of Philly: the nightlife, the sense of community, and the constant growth and redevelopment.

Portland, Maine took the top spot on the Realtor.com poll, followed by Philadelphia and then St. Louis, nearby Allentown, and Albany. Harrisburg came in at number 6 on the rankings. All in all, Pennsylvania made a strong showing in the top ten!

CBS was also preening over the fact that local anchor Ukee Washington earned a shout-out on the list as “perhaps the coolest news anchor in America.”
